Pamela Hadaway
In a former life I was a Registered General Nurse for a considerable time, and
some years after qualifying, I specialised as an Operating Theatre Nurse.
A back injury then forced a change of direction.
Now having been a business entrepreneur for the past 3 years, I own and manage 2
diverse small companies.
This is my 3rd year with the OU, the T171 looked inviting and has proved to be a
steep learning curve. Next year the
SK220 looks probable, since it is biology and genetics.
Please have a look at Page 2, Web Authoring
Software.
This page has been put together by Tricia and myself, and gives useful
information on what to look for when contemplating web authoring.

I'm Ken, a 51 year old downshifter (sounds better than retired). I began this course to offset the effects of cabin fever in the depths of East Anglia. Unfortunately it seems to have taken over and reintroduced all the stresses I was trying to escape. It has cured my cabin fever and although its been nine years since my last OU course I am enjoying it, and I hope to go on to study design next year. I have written about
authoring
for the web.
Mike Fitzgerald
I have resumed study with the OU with T171 so as to keep up with the technology of keeping in touch. I finished a long but enjoyable BA stint in 1994.A couple of years ago I began again doing an MA in Humanities, following the History line, studying British Cinema in the 1950s and 60s,but I have decided not to continue.Instead I am developing an interest in church monuments,a minority interest to be sure. I am hoping that IT can be used to encouage wider participation.
I have produced the Taking
stock of module
1 page.
Tricia Cooke
I'm
a housewife and mother of two girls aged 6 and 3 with baby no. 3 due between
TMA03 and TMA04. I look after two
other children part-time and provide a secretarial/administrative service from
home for three people, one of whom is my self-employed husband.
I
am a keen musician and sing part-time for the BBC Symphony Chorus.
Six years ago BC (before children) I taught word-processing both in-house
at work and evenings at a further education college.
Six years is a long time in the computer world and I am hoping T171 will
help bring me some way into the 21st century.
I
worked on the Web Authoring Software page with Pamela.

This is my first OU
course and I'm finding it very interesting and also a good place to meet people!
The FirstClass conferences are one of the best parts of the course!
Well, now a little about myself...
I was married for 7 years and might again one day... I have a 7 year old boy and
a 5 year old girl. I'm happily settled with my partner, Carl who is being very
supportive with my studying.
I decided to take this course to - yes, you guessed it - further my career
prospects. I left school without taking any exams and have worked as a waitress
in hotel in Central London and here in Suffolk. I'm fed up with serving people
mint sauce and would like to make a 'mint' instead! (Very bad pun...!)
At the moment, I'm using the web authoring skills that I've picked up on T171 to
design a website for my boyfriend and his business partner. They want a site
that will promote and sell their software program. So I'm quite busy! I have put
together this site and also added my views on authoring
for the web.
